Consider This: Walk to Stop Diabetes, Sept. 22 at Mackenzie Park

I want to invite you to come out to Mackenzie Park baseball fields this Saturday, Sept. 22 at 8 a.m., and join me in the American Diabetes Association’s 25th Anniversary “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes.”

There will be music, a health and fitness fair, climbing wall, food and more. The goal is for every walker to raise $150 from friends and sponsors to help fight diabetes.

This great organization has raised more than $5 million in the last 25 years to fight diabetes, a disease that affects more than 37,000 people in Lubbock County alone.

I learned about this terrible disease from my son, Pierce, who was the Youth Ambassador for the walk last year. As I watch his courage, injecting himself five times daily and monitoring his diet and blood sugar to combat the disease, I know I would do anything in my power to bring about a cure.

Consider this: Support the fight against diabetes and help us fund the research that can find a cure. You can register at www.diabetes.org/stepoutlubbock.

Email matwood@diabetes.org or call 794.0691 x 6138 for more information.

And even if you haven’t signed up, it’s not too late to show up Saturday morning with a donation and walk with us to fight diabetes.

Together, we will find a cure.
