LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - For the first time since 2000, the Red Raider Volleyball team has started Big 12 conference play 2-0.
Freshman Brooke Kanas had a breakout week and was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week by the league office.
Kanas set a career high 17 kills on .344 hitting in the win at No. 19 Baylor and followed that with 14 kills and .370 hitting in the victory over West Virginia.
In a press release sent out by Texas Tech Athletics, Red Raider Volleyball head coach Tony Graystone had this to say on Kanas receiving this award.
“Congratulations to Brooke on a tremendous week and for her recognition by the Big 12,” head coach Tony Graystone said. “This was a true breakout week for Brooke, and her play was a big reason for our success against Baylor and West Virginia. Brooke is off to a great start, and we’re excited about her future as a Red Raider.”
Kanas got it done on the defensively at the net as well, recording a career high four blocks at Baylor, and she added two more against West Virginia.
The (13-3) Red Raiders will be back in action on Friday against (8-7) Iowa State, first serve at the United Supermarkets Arena is slated for 6 p.m.
