LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Tech Police Department invited students, faculty, staff and community members to join in during a memorial for Floyd East Jr. at 1:45 p.m. Oct. 9 at Memorial Circle on the Tech campus.

A moment of silence took place at 2 p.m. after speakers Sean Lewis, student body president; and Kyle Bonath, Tech police chief, say a few words about East.

Remembering Officer Floyd East, Jr.

East, an officer originally from El Paso, was killed on Oct. 9 2017 after being shot while responding to a call on the Tech campus. The suspect accused of shooting East is Hollis Daniels, a Tech freshman at the time from Seguin.

The Texas Tech University System would also like to remind the public there is a memorial scholarship set up to benefit undergraduate or graduate students in the Institute of Forensic Science or in the Criminology Concentration for sociology majors at Texas Tech. The scholarship fund can be viewed here.
