Troopers identify Acuff man killed in Sunday fiery crash

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Department of Public Safety Troopers confirm one person is dead in a two-vehicle crash along East FM 40 at FM 400 in eastern Lubbock County. The man who died has been identified as 59-year-old Cary Lynn Stennett of Acuff.

The accident happened at 8:25 p.m. Sunday near the Roosevelt Community and involved one vehicle and a semi truck, that caught fire.

Troopers say a 2017 Kia Optima was northbound on FM 400 and ran a stop sign at the intersection of FM 40. The semi driven by Stennett hit the Kia on the right passenger side. The semi rolled onto its right side.

Both vehicles caught fire. A witness pulled Magalhaes Costa, 25, and Aaron Robinson, 28, both of Amarillo, from the Kia. The witness was not able to get Stennett out of the semi.

The crash remains under investigation.
