Evacuations lifted in Littlefield gas leak

LITTLEFIELD, TX (KCBD) - Police in Littlefield, along with Atmos Energy, spent their Sunday evening working a gas leak along Waylon Jennings Blvd.

According to a Facebook post to the Littlefield Police Department’s page, the leak started Sunday afternoon in the 700 block of East 8th Street.

Atmos Energy said the 700 block of 8th was evacuated on both sides out of an abundance of caution.

Atmos tells KCBD a customer called them after smelling natural gas.

They say a control valve was leaking and that crews are excavating to make repairs.

Atmos says it is a main line into the town, but it was able to be bypassed. An estimated 8 homes were without gas service while repairs were completed.

Atmos was able to complete repairs by 10:45 Sunday night.

Crews will now go door-to-door to turn gas back on. If residents aren’t home, a tag will be left with information to contact the company.
