MORGANTOWN, WV (KCBD) - Jarrett Culver scored all 18 of his points in the second half to help Texas Tech win their Big 12 opener over West Virginia 62-59. It’s the first win ever for the Red Raiders in Morgantown.
The Red Raiders (12-1 overall, 1-0 in Big 12) trailed 22-20 at the half as Jarrett Culver was held scoreless in the first 20 minutes picking up three fouls.
Texas Tech came out in the second half on fire going on a 19-2 run, including a spurt at the end of the first half.
However, they had to deal with more foul trouble than just Culver. Tariq Owens and Norense Odiase both fouled out of the game scoring four points each. Kyler Edwards also fouled out for the Red Raiders. there were 50 fouls in the game between the two teams.
In a tight game, Davide Moretti hit a three-pointer to give the Red Raiders a 55-54 lead with 2:07 left to play. a lead they never gave up.
West Virginia turned over the ball 22 times. Matt Mooney added 14 points for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders Big 12 home opener is Saturday hosting Kansas State at 1pm at the United Supermarkets Arena.
