AUSTIN, TX (KCBD) - As Texas Tech Head Coach Chris Beard would say: the Red Raiders are gearing up to enter round four of the 18 round fight that is the Big 12 Conference.
Currently at (14-1, 3-0 in Big 12) Texas Tech is set to hit the road and face the Texas Longhorns.
Coming into the game, Texas Tech is looking to improve to 15-1 for the second time in program history and is also looking to win in Austin for the first time since Feb. 24, 1996.
The Red Raiders have been tremendous on defense this season, and really no team in America has been better.
The Longhorns are 10-5 on the season, led by senior Kerwin Roach II with 13.3 points per game.
Longhorn freshman Jaxson Hayes leads the Big 12 Conference in blocked shots per with 39.
Right now, Texas ranks second in the Big 12 in 3-pointers per game with 126.
"This is certainly an opportunity. In my opinion Texas is one of the best teams in the country and have NBA players. They have experience and young talent and Shaka has done a great job like he always does. This team seems to be playing its best basketball right now with conference starting. I've been telling our guys all week that we'll have to play our best game of the season to this point. We'll have to play a full 40 minutes to be competitive and put ourselves in a position to win this game."
According to Vegas, the Red Raiders are 1-point favorites to beat Texas in Austin.
Tip off for the game is at 1 p.m. and will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
