Car crashes into home

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock police have a passenger in custody and are still searching for a driver after a car crashed into a house in the 5500 block of Richmond Avenue on Friday afternoon.

Police say they got a call about two males, possibly intoxicated, causing trouble at Jake’s Sports Bar around 4:05 p.m.

The suspects were leaving in a Ford Focus as police arrived, and the driver refused to pull over for police.

Police say, “Due to the time of day and amount of traffic in the area, the pursuit was canceled for the public’s safety. Moments later, officers were notified the car had crashed into a home in the 5500 block of Richmond Avenue.”

The two men in the vehicle ran from the scene. The passenger, 37-year-old Rodney Ybarra Jr., was arrested and charged with public intoxication. The driver is still at large.

Police tell us they were not involved in an active pursuit at the time of the crash.

Police are now investigating another collision that may have involved these same suspects. Police say another vehicle may have been struck by the suspect vehicle in the 4600 block of 50th Street.

The victim immediately pulled into a business parking lot and called EMS. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Police say, “During the pursuit, the officer had maintained an increased following distance from the suspect vehicle in order to drive with due regard for the public’s safety and was unaware the suspect had struck another vehicle.”

We’ll continue to update this story as more details are confirmed.
