LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Police Department has re-opened the east and westbound lanes of the Marsha Sharp Freeway near West Loop 289 after it was temporarily shut down Monday morning.
Police were called to the scene just after midnight because of a report of a suicidal person on the Freeway flyover to the South Loop, according to an LPD news release. Officers arrived to find a man on the flyover and tried to speak with him.
The man then crossed the retainer wall of the flyover and refused to move from the edge, which prompted police to shutdown the freeway as a safety precaution.
After nearly seven hours of negotiating, police and negotiators were able to talk the man off the ledge. He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
