LUBBOCK, TX (Texas Tech Athletics) -The Texas Tech Spring Series will return for its third season and first under new head coach Matt Wells as the Red Raiders will once again host scrimmages in the cities of Lubbock, Midland and Frisco as part of its spring slate.

The Spring Series has been a rousing success the past two years, generating large crowds at both Grande Communications Stadium in Midland and the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, the official team headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys. Tech has averaged over 10,000 fans for its spring scrimmage the past two years in Frisco alone.

One noticeable change to the Spring Series this year is the Friday Night Lights format for the Permian Basin Scrimmage in Midland. The scrimmage will kick off at 7 p.m. on April 5 – a Friday night – as opposed to its usual Saturday afternoon start. Admission will be free, allowing fans in the Permian Basin region to see three area Red Raiders in senior Desmon Smith and juniors Jax Welch and McLane Mannix.

The Permian Basin Scrimmage follows a scrimmage in Lubbock, which will begin at 2 p.m. on March 30 inside Jones AT&T Stadium. Admission will be free to all fans and pregame and postgame activities will be announced in the weeks leading up to the scrimmage.

The Red Raiders will round out their first set of spring practices under Wells on April 13 with the annual Spring Game, which will be hosted inside the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco. Tickets for the 2 p.m. game will go on sale in the upcoming weeks at $10 for adults 19 years of age and older. Complimentary admission will be provided to fans 18 years or younger but a ticket will be required for entry into the Ford Center.

The Red Raiders are slated to open their first set of spring practices under Wells in early March prior to the university’s Spring Break. A complete spring schedule with practice dates will be released in the upcoming weeks.
