LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - We have all heard the saying in sports, "offense wins games but defense wins championships."
Well, after the No. 18 Red Raiders dominated the Mountaineers on Big Monday - Texas Tech currently sits in the top spot for field-goal percentage defense.
(They also sit fourth in three-point field goal defense and third in scoring defense.)
In the game against West Virginia, the Mountaineers went 20+ minutes without a field goal made - en route to their worst point differential of the season.
They finished the game with nine total baskets while shooting a mere 23-percent from the field.
"They made shots and we didn't make shots and then we threw the ball to them," WVU coach Bob Huggins said. "We are a very generous bunch of guys. We'll throw the ball to anybody. They're just very, very charitable."
The 31-point loss for West Virginia matched their worst Big 12 loss since joining the Big 12 Conference seven years ago.
(They also had a 31-point loss to TCU last month).
The 31-point win for the Red Raiders matched their biggest Big 12 win since 1999 - when they beat Baylor.
