South Plains HAZMAT Team responds to overturned tanker north of Plainview

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Department of Public Safety has reported a rollover of a fuel tanker truck in Hale County, and the South Plains HAZMAT team was called to respond to the leak.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, as the truck pulling a tanker of fuel driven by 24-year-old Christopher Villerreal-Ochoa of Plainview was traveling south on Interstate 27, when the tanker began drifting down the embankment, the truck overturned and came to a rest upside down with the fuel tank on its side.

The south Plains Hazardous Materials Response team was called to clean up the leaked fuel. The truck was carrying 5,200 gallons of diesel and 2,800 gallons of unleaded gasoline.

No estimate of the amount spilled has been given at this time, the driver received non-incapacitating injuries. The Plainview Fire Department cleared the incident around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.
