LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Trinity Christian Girls and Boys boarded a bus to Waco Wednesday afternoon as both teams have advanced to the TAPPS State Tournament.
For the Lady Lions, it’s ironic that they are making the 700 mile roundtrip to Robinson, just outside of Waco, to play a team in their District that’s right down the road from them. A team Head Coach Nick Catherman knows extremely well.
“We’re going to play our hometown favorites Lubbock Christian for a fourth time this season. We are pretty excited about it. Nice venue. Nice opportunity for both teams to celebrate successful seasons.”
#2 Trinity Christian split two District games with #4 Lubbock Christian. The two teams then met February 12th at the Rip Griffin Center for the #1 seed in the playoffs and the Lady Lions won 66-51.
Now the teams play a 4th time in the State Semifinals 1 p.m. Friday at Robinson High School.
“We feel pretty comfortable facing them again. Coach Crow and the girls over there to a fantastic job preparing to face their crosstown rival. We know we are going to have to match their intensity.”
The #5 Trinity Christian Boys face #1 Arlington Grace Prep 6 p.m. Thursday in Robinson. Head Coach Brandon Gilbert is excited for the opportunity.
“It’s an exciting time for our program. It’s an exciting time for our guys. Guys have worked hard all season. This will be game number 41 for us so it’s been a long road. To get to this point was our goal at the beginning of the season. Guys are excited.”
