Littlefield teens arrested, accused of stealing pickup truck while owners did yard work

LITTLEFIELD, TX (KCBD) - Two teenagers in Littlefield are in police custody after stealing a pickup truck while its owners were helping another resident mow her lawn.

The Littlefield Police Department reports on Monday the truck owners had just unloaded a lawnmower off the truck when the two teens got in and drove off.

While on patrol two officers saw the truck driving above the speed limit, run a stop sign and nearly hit their patrol vehicle. The officers tried to pursue the vehicle but the driver did not pull over.

The truck was finally able to come to a stop after the driver hit multiple trees, a structure and metal pole in the 500 block of West 2nd Street. Once the truck came to a stop, both the driver and passenger ran from the scene.

They were apprehended shortly after.

The driver was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot and failure to leave information at a scene. The passenger was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading on foot, criminal trespass of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.

The identity of the two juveniles was not released.
