Perry seeking federal aid for wildfires

The wildfires across Texas are blamed for at least three deaths, and Friday Governor Rick Perry is asking the federal government for help.

Perry asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to issue an emergency declaration for the 199 Texas counties threatened by high fire conditions. Officials say more than 100,000 acres have burned in 49 major fires fanned by high winds during the recent drought conditions.

Perry's office says at least 21 aircraft are part of the effort to control and put out the wildfires, including two Texas military Blackhawk helicopters.

A FEMA declaration would provide federal assets and firefighting resources to assist in battling fires.
