PLAINVIEW , TX (KCBD) - Something good might come from a Plainview economic tragedy. The Plainview peanut plant closed along with a similar plant in Blakely, Georgia. It was part of a nationwide salmonella outbreak that killed as many as nine and made 700 or more people sick.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Grocery Manufacturers Association has called for new safety initiatives. They include new training and more food safety audits. The grocers also want a new internet-based recall system to speed up the process of finding and removing recalled food products.
