LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Epilepsy Foundation West Texas is hosting Haunted Dash. It's a fun, short walk and costume party- so dress up! All the proceeds will benefit EFWT, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with epilepsy. The money donated at the event will help people with epilepsy get medication assistance, visits to neurologists and pay for medical procedures.
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that can affect anyone at any age. The disorder affects one in 100 people, which translates to one in 34 children in Texas alone. Epilepsy can be controlled by medication however, not everyone is fortunate enough to have insurance or an income that will pay for such prescriptions, that's where EFWT steps in. The organization provides a full range of epilepsy related services. EFWT works as the liaison between doctors and patients to make sure they get on the right medication and find the proper funding to pay for it. Its mission is to further the understanding of epilepsy in the community and the acceptance of individuals with epilepsy.
The Haunted Dash is Saturday, October 31st at the Mae Simmons Park near the Dunbar Historical Lake, that's Canyon Lake Drive and Martin Luther King Blvd (East side of MLK). The fun begins at 9am and ends about noon. There will be a variety of activities for the kids plus tricks and treats. Registration is $10 for adults & 12 years of age and older. Children 5-12 are $5 & children under 5 are free. All of the money raised on Halloween will stay in our community. If you are interested in attending or learning more about EFWT please visit the Epilepsy Foundation West Texas' website (click here) or call their office, (806) 785-1171.
