LOVINGTON, N.M. (AP) - A Texas teenager has died from injuries suffered when a sport utility vehicle he was riding in rolled numerous times on a southeastern New Mexico highway.
State police said 14-year-old Edgar Lozano of Denver City, Texas, died Wednesday night at a hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He had been in critical condition since the accident on Halloween night.
The crash happened on New Mexico highway 83 east of Lovington. State police say 17-year-old Michael Herrera of Denver City lost control of the SUV and it rolled. 3 of the five people inside were ejected.
Police say Herrera fled on foot but was later brought in for questioning.
Investigators say speed and failure to wear seat belts were contributing factors in the Lozano's death.
