2 women killed in I-40 crash identified

Associated Press - November 26, 2009 7:35 PM ET

CARNUEL, N.M. (AP) - A Bernalillo County sheriff's department spokesman has identified two women killed in a two-car collision on Interstate 40 east of Albuquerque.

Lt. David Knowles said Thursday 56-year-old Katherine Cullen of Santa Fe and 56-year-old Judith Bjorkman of Edgewood died in the crash.

Cullen was driving a jeep east in the highway's westbound lanes when it collided head-on with a sports-utility vehicle driven by Bjorkman. Both women died on the scene.

Knowles says a 2-year-old child in Bjorkman's vehicle who was injured has been released from an Albuquerque hospital. He says the toddler was in a car seat.

Knowles says investigators are trying to determine what caused Cullen to drive the wrong way on the highway. He says neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor.
