FirstCare Health Plans announces layoffs

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - FirstCare Health Plans announced on Thursday that 88 people will lose their jobs. 24 of those jobs are in Lubbock.

According to the press release, Clifford Frank, the president and CEO of FirstCare says, "We are streamlining our business so we can focus on areas with a greater potential for future growth, we remain optimistic about our long-range prospects and this difficult, but necessary, step will help ensure that we will get there."

A majority of the positions eliminated are based at FirstCare's corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas. Other regional offices impacted include Amarillo, Harlingen, and Lubbock.

The press release states that FirstCare leadership estimates that the elimination of these positions throughout the company will lead to savings of more than $5 million in salaries and benefits annually.
