Buyers be cautious when purchasing George Strait concert tickets early

By Alex Butler - email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Country music superstar George Strait will be in Lubbock in March at the United Spirit Arena, but ticket prices and sale dates have not yet been confirmed. Some fans can find tickets for sale right now on different web sites, but officials at the United Spirit Arena say that those fans need to be careful.

The George Strait concert is expected to be one of the biggest concerts coming to Lubbock. George, along with Lee Ann Womack and Reba McIntire, are all on the ticket, but you might want to think twice before you rush online to buy your tickets.

"When people start looking for tickets online and type into Google, tons of sites will come up- most sites are legitimate but these are secondary sites," said Kent Meredith with the United Spirit Arena. Secondary sites like tickethub.com, ticketnetwork.com and several others have prime seats going for more than $200. "Tickets will probably not go on sale until February for the concert on March 26th," said Meredith.

We asked the question, if tickets aren't yet on sale, how are they available online? KCBD NewsChannel 11 spoke to Jessica Cushing from ticketnetwork.com and she said that "ticket network is an exchange, so they don't actually hold the inventory." She said that means that they don't have the tickets; professional brokers have various ways of obtaining tickets before they're actually on sale to the public. Cushing said that ticketnetwork.com won't typically acquire the tickets until they go on sale to the public.

Officials at the United Spirit Arena say that is the problem. "The problem is those secondary ticket sources have to get tickets first and there is no guarantee they will actually get the tickets," said Meredith. Officials with ticketnetwork.com say that the sites are legitimate and there is a very slim chance that you won't receive the ticket that you purchase. Cushing says ticketnetwork.com guarantees their tickets 125 percent. "It's a very, very rare case, but if we do have an issue we won't work with the broker."

The secondary ticket business is a $4.5 billion industry but Meredith says be careful. "Know who you're buying these tickets from, and the best thing to do is just buy them from Select-A-Seat directly." Their website is www.selectaseatlubbock.com.

There is no word on how much tickets will be on where they will officially go on sale, but KCBD NewsChannel 11 will bring you that information when it becomes available.
