OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Texas Rangers wrapped up a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a 3-0 victory yesterday. Martin Perez pitched his second consecutive shutout to extend his scoreless innings streak to 26. The Rangers moved a half-game ahead of Oakland in first place in the AL West with their first sweep of the A's since August 2011.
DALLAS (AP) - The Stars beat the top-seeded Anaheim Ducks 4-2 yesterday in Game 4 of the best-of-seven series that is now even. Cody Eakin and Alex Goligoski scored on Dallas' first two shots in the third period. Dallas captain Jaime Benn scored off a faceoff only 27 seconds into the second period.
HARRISON, N.J. (AP) - Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice in the first 24 minutes and added a second-half penalty kick to give the New York Red Bulls a 4-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo last night. Wright-Phillips was the first Red Bulls player to record three goals in a match since Thierry Henry in March 2012 against Montreal. Houston is winless in its last five.
