Chippendale's Released From Jail

The Chippendales are free after bonding out of the Lubbock County Jail free of charge.  Friday night, NewsChannel 11 was the only station on the scene as the Las Vegas dancers took the stage and later as they were arrested by Lubbock Police.  Eight dancers were sent to the Lubbock County Jail along with their manager, their promoter and a manager from Jake's Sports Bar.  All were accused of violating the city's sexually oriented business rules.

"Chippendales is not your typical male review.  We've been around for 27-years.  We're nationally known, nationally acclaimed being the number one male review in the world.  It's a full choreographed production.  Our show has been on Broadway," said Nick Adams, one of the 8 Chippendales who were sent to jail Friday night.

And despite that national acclaim, hopeful show goers were left with unused tickets.

Show goer, Erica Reagan said, "I was very disappointed because I was excited about it.  It was going to be fun."

Unlimited Events Productions was the promoter of Friday night's event and according to them, they took every step possible to put on a show that abided by Lubbock's laws.

Promoter Jacob Ledesma said, "We met with the fire department and went over what the capacity was because we came into the town wanting to build a relationship.  We don't want to ruffle any feathers.  We definitely want to come here every year."

Ledesma adds that they even arrived in Lubbock at 10 o'clock in the morning the day of the show hoping to meet with the Lubbock Police Department about the law.  Ledesma claims repeated e-mail attempts to contact the police were unanswered.

Ledesma said, "we did request to meet with the Lubbock Police Department and basically we were told that they did not have time to meet with us until 6:30 when the doors opened up at 6."

Lubbock Police however did meet with the dancers right before the show.  And about a half-hour in, police stopped the show.

One officer said, "one or more of the dancers engaged in and simulated sexual act on one or more than occasions and that violates the ordinance."

Ledesma says the Chippendales have done shows like this all over the southwest with no trouble.

"We've had the Chippendales in Abilene, Texas, we had them in Odessa, Texas, San Angelo Texas, we've had them in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Las Cruces, New Mexico, in El Paso, Texas as well.  All over the southwest."

One of the manager's at Jake's was also arrested last night.  He's also out of jail and in fact was working at Jake's.  Police shut the cafe down Friday night but it re-opened Saturday morning.  Jake's is planning to work with customers on getting their money refunded but they're not sure how they'll go about that just yet.
