Day two of the ABC Pro Rodeo came to an end at the City Bank Coliseum here in Lubbock.
Friday night, a group of ladies made a grand entrance kicking off tonight's performance. They're the rodeo queen, princesses and flag girls.
She's the first person you see at the rodeo, carrying the American Flag while on horseback. But beneath that rhinestone shine is a hard working cowgirl.
"I do a lot more than most queens do. I have all the back end the rodeo, the grand entry," said Katy Hart.
Hart is this year's ABC Pro Rodeo Queen. Under her eye is two princesses, a team of flag girls and local horseback riding clubs.
This queen has been riding since the age of four and earned her title from a panel of judges.
"You're asked questions on certain horse diseases. You have to know all your major national sponsors for the rodeo, anything that has to do with rodeo you need to know," says Hart.
The same goes for her princesses.
ABC Pro Rodeo Princess Kollen Adams, says she did a speech in front the judges and rode in front of them.
When you see these ladies in the arena they're all smiles and grace. But getting there takes hours of works and years of experience.
"It's something you got to work for and for a long time. We just don't jump on a horse. It's a year's worth of work," says Hart.
The 23-year-old also says her queen duties extend outside the arena, speaking to school children, sponsors and making public appearances. Hart's term as ABC Pro Rodeo Queen is one year long.
