Lubbock Cotton Kings Suspend Operations

Unable to get the city of Lubbock back to the negotiating table and basically talking to themselves for the last month, the inevitable has happened...the Lubbock Cotton Kings have been approved by the CHL to suspend opperations for a year.

That ends an 8 year run in the Hub City for the Cotton Kings who were the longest running professional franchise in the city as the Lone Stars, Gunslingers, Hawks and Crickets have come and gone. Now the team still may move to San Angelo but wouldn't play until next season.

Right now the Kings tell me they have a little under 300 committed season tickets holders who'd like ice play to come back. San Angelo's city council will vote in the next month if they're interested in professional hockey returning there.

As for the future of the sport here, if the Cotton Kings end up moving or they go under, another buyer can come in and start hockey in the market. The CHL hopes hockey returns someday to Lubbock.
