Texas Tech Awarded $4.1 Million Grant

Just one day before President Bush is expected to announce a reduction of US troops in Iraq, Texas Tech is awarded for its effort in fighting terrorism.

Wednesday morning, the US Department of Defense and US Army gave the Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tech a $4.1 million research grant.

"They value our research, they don't just hand these out, they expect results," said Kent Hance, Texas Tech Chancellor.

"The work they do here at the institute will help detect and prepare us for the potential of threats," said Randy Neugebauer, US Congressman.

"The threat is everyday, it's everyday and it's not going away for decades, we believe So we've got to be ready," said Ronald J. Kendall, TIEHH Director.

The money will be used to continue Texas Tech's research to fight biological and chemical terrorism.
