Pit Bull Allegedly Attacks Lubbock Police Officer, Owner Charged

A weekend dog attack lands a Lubbock man behind bars.

Police say Jimmy Cruz, 22, told his pit bull to attack a police officer early Sunday morning. Cruz is now charged with aggravated assault.

The officer responded around 1:00 a.m., to a report about a loud party. Reports indicate that the officer approached the house where the music appeared to be coming from, that's when the garage door opened, and Cruz told his dog to "sick em." The officer fired one shot. The dog was injured, but the officer was unharmed.

Lubbock Animal Services says the pit bull is not in their custody, but will most likely be subject to a dangerous dog hearing.

As of late Monday, Cruz remained in the Lubbock County Jail. He had not been arraigned. A ten-thousand dollar bond is recommended.

Lubbock Police say their investigation is ongoing.
