The Texas Tech campus will be full of knights, kings, queens, and some bishops as the highest U.S. ranked chess tournament takes place there this weekend.
The 2008 SPICE Cup places the 10 internationally acclaimed players against each other through nine rounds of play in 10 days. "It's really, really big and it's the highest ranking ever international round-robin competition of this sort in U.S. history," said Susan Polgar, SPICE Director.
Polgar says the event is expected to be followed by 30 million people worldwide because the games will be broadcast live on the internet.
