LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A small aircraft has landed safely north of Lubbock.

Just after 12:30 p.m., the pilot of a small plane contacted air traffic controllers at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, saying he was out of fuel and a crash landing was imminent.

The tower lost radar contact with the aircraft around 12:40 p.m., with the last known location between New Deal and Abernathy. DPS troopers immediately sped to the area, along with authorities from Lubbock, Abernathy and New Deal.

The aircraft was located on a caliche road near Abernathy. Officers identified the location as County Road 5100, about two miles west of Interstate 27.

First responders indicated that upon their arrival, the pilot was out of the plane and walking around.
