LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This week an investigation by NewsChannel 11 revealed that a top level city staffer, who basically hasn't worked since August, is still being paid his full salary. We also learned he will continue to be paid until February, and we've been given no information why this employee quit or was fired - much less why we, the taxpayers, must give him the $70,000 in salary.
Consider this; making these types of decisions may or may not be in the best interest of the city. The point here is: the bureaucrats down there think they don't have to answer to anyone, including the public who pays their salaries. They hide behind the excuse that they can't discuss "personnel" matters because the city might get sued. The problem is, in this case, the employee signed an agreement not to sue the city in exchange for the money. But still, city manager Lee Ann Dumbauld refused to explain why this agreement was necessary or even why she couldn't talk about it. She snubbed her nose at the taxpayers who foot the bill - and who also pay her very large salary - and that is a lot of money to be so un-accountable.
