Campbell Soup recalls 15M pounds of SpaghettiOs

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A canned food, popular among kids, has been recalled due to undercooked meat.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 was at a United Supermarket as they pulled Spaghetti O's from the shelves. The recall affects certain 14.75 ounce cans containing meatballs, and all were produced in Paris, Texas and shipped out nationwide.

"I got a phone call from our distribution center saying that we need to pull our SpaghettiO's with meatballs. The three varieties: O's, A to Z's and Cars. They could be potentially hazardous and to get them off the shelves as soon as possible," says Codie Hair, Assistant Manager.

So check your pantry. The recall includes Spaghetti O's marked with a use-by date between June 2010 and December 2011, with the plant code EST4K. These products were manufactured between December 2008 and June 2010 and distributed to retail establishments nationwide.

After checking with the grocery store, we went to South Plains Food Bank to make sure they were aware of the recall. They were in the process of sorting through the canned goods. A few of the recalled cans were among the donations. Meagan Bratton, a volunteer coordinator, suggests checking your pantry before making a donation.

"If you hear about a recall on the news or through any other source just kind of look through your pantry and take out what you can at that time. Not just for our food safety, for what you will be donating, but for your own family's safety," Bratton said. "Then when it comes down to it and you have a food drive you want to donate to, you may already have those products out of your pantry."

If you find a can that was part of the recall, return it to the store where it was purchased. Consumers with questions about the recall can call Campbell's Hotline at (866) 495-3774.
