
Mike Arismendez is a 1991 graduate of Texas Tech University where he holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Finance and Business Economics. He also attended the Master’s program at St. Edward’s University in Austin, where his major field of study was Business Management. He currently serves as the Assistant to the Mayor and City Council for the City of Lubbock.
Mike is the former Mayor for the City of Shallowater. He was elected in May of 2001 and worked as Legislative Director for State Representative Carl H. Isett. As Legislative Director, Mike was responsible for all legislation that State Rep. Isett proposed in the 78th Legislative Session. He also analyzed all legislation that was presented during the session and assisted on various legislative committees, such as the Economic Development committee, Redistricting Committee, and the Select Committee on Ethics.
Mike was appointed to the Texas Motor Vehicle Board by Governor Rick Perry in November 2003 and served in that capacity until June 2005, when the Board was abolished. Governor Perry appointed him to the Texas Commission on Licensing and Regulation in September 2005, where he currently serves in that capacity.
He is currently the 1st Vice-Chair for the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President for the Lubbock County Republican Hispanic National Assembly, Board Member of WesTex Allied Communities, Advisory Council to Fiestas Del Llano, member of Texas Association of Sports Officials, and member of Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. He also served as former President of Lubbock County Child Protective Services, former Precinct Chairman Lubbock County Republican Party, Executive Committee Lubbock County Republican Party, founding member and Vice-President of Raiders Rojos – chapter of Texas Tech Alumni Association, Vice-President of Lubbock Youth Football League, and President of Shallowater Little Dribblers.
Mike’s greatest success is his family. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Esmeralda, for over 21 years. She is a High School Spanish teacher at Shallowater Independent School District. He has two teenage children, Dina –18 who is a senior at Shallowater High School, and Marc - 16 who is sophomore at Shallowater High School. During his spare time and depending on the sports season, Mike officiates high school football and basketball. He has also served in various civic and youth sports organizations. He and his family are members of Alliance Church in Lubbock, Texas.
