Home Brinks Security makes a safe that is fire resistant. The makers say their product is durable enough it will protect your important valuables you store inside this 13 X 8 inch interior safe, but Does it Work?
Some of the things you can put in your Home Brink Security are important documents, jewelry, such as earrings and a necklace, and my photographers very important credentials. They are plastic I might ad. "We'll lock it up and secure it first. Now we're ready to do the test," says NewsChannel 11's Cecelia Coy.
In order to do this test, we are getting the Lubbock Fire Department involved. Since the makers say its fire safe can withstand heat up to 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, it is important to have the professionals do the test. We are doing our test at the department's fire training center inside their burn house. "You ready to test this?" Cecelia asks. "Yeah, I'm ready. You ready?" says Lt. Mark Ethridge.
Lt. Ethridge will place hay on top of the fire safe to help it burn. "We'll fluff the hay on top, we'll put some on the floor underneath and then we'll set a fire to it," he says. It did not take long for the hay to catch fire. "That's direct flames on that briefcase. That's well over 1,500 degrees," notes Ethridge.
After burning for several minutes, Lt. Ethridge put the fire out. The fire safe was burned to a crisp! There was no way the contents inside survived that fire! "Looks like the bottom of the case came apart. It's still in tact. It maybe a little hard to open but we'll give it a try," says Lt. Ethridge.
Lt. Ethridge had to pry the safe open because the sides were melted together. "Looks like everything ok," says Cecelia. Definitely a product worth the 20 bucks. It works!
