New details released in fatal Garza County accident

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The investigation continues into a deadly accident just south of Post.

DPS troopers say the 29-year-old Christopher Rodgers of San Angelo was driving a stolen pickup traveling around 100 miles per hour when he clipped a car on U.S. Highway 84, around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The truck then crossed the median and hit another pickup. "We believe that the stolen pickup started sliding sideways in the median and it hit this embankment right here, and it caused it to flip in the air. So, when it struck the pickup that was traveling southbound, it hit with the top of the cab and sheared the cab off the pickup and it landed out in the field out there," says Sgt. Ruben Garcia with DPS.

The drivers of both pickups died at the scene. The driver of the other truck was 39-year-old Jess Oldham of Abilene.
