Food for Thought Report 10/7/10

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - We start this week's list where many start their day. Krispy Kreme at 4301 S. Loop 289 glazes through their inspection with a sweet score of zero critical violations.

Next we take a trip to your neighborhood grill and bar for a plate of perfection. Applebee's at 4025 S. Loop 289 lands at the top of the list for the first time.

You don't have to go anywhere except for the door to bite into our next top performer. Domino's Pizza 5815 82nd delivers a perfect score.

"No shirt. No shoes. No worries." Jimmy John's 2413 Broadway brings perfection to your door as well.

It's in the bag once again for American's favorite drive-in. The Sonic at 4401 4th Street serves up a repeat top performance.

And finally we head inside Cancun Mexican Restaurant at 7905 University to uncover their secret to a clean kitchen.

"Really it's team work. We all work together. All the servers, including me the bartender, we all get together and decide what we need to do. Clean walls, floors, under the tables - whatever it takes," Leonel Flores says.

Flores says it's the love for what they do that makes their authentic Mexican food standout.

"We really put our heart into what we do. We don't just serve food; we give it to people, we make sure they like it and enjoy it, and if not we'll switch it and do it again."

"It's really good, and if you haven't tried any of it you should; it's delicious."

So what does Flores suggest?

"One of my favorites is the "Jalisco's Special." It's steak, chicken, shrimp, onion, bell peppers, and tomatoes over a bed of rice with cheese on top... and some secret spices."

But it's no secret they're excited to be a top performer, "It really does bring joy to us you know. Because we try our fullest all the time. The construction that was kind of hurting us, but hopefully now that it's reopen, people will start coming in and we have a better time we get bored here by ourselves - we need some company."
