LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, 20, was arrested in Lubbock, TX, on a charge of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction Wednesday. According to an affidavit, Aldawsari had been researching how to construct an IED using several chemicals as ingredients. He had also acquired or tried to acquire most of the ingredients and equipment necessary to construct an IED.

Aldawasari was held Thursday in the Lubbock County Jail.

"As it affects us, I think it shows first of all professionalism in the Lubbock Police Department, who generated the information about the suspect," said Mayor Tom Martin. "We have a very, very good working relationship between all agencies of law enforcement, federal, state, and local here in Lubbock."

Mayor Martin said "It's a terrible think that we have people in our country that are doing this but it's very rewarding and reassuring that our local law enforcement and federal and state agencies can work together to take them down."

The Mayor also said "This is West Texas, I'm sure he'll be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
