Former Levelland Football Player Loses Civil Case

After almost two hours of deliberation a Lubbock jury decided a football helmet was not to blame in the injuries that left a Levelland football player paralyzed from the waist down.

Jeremy Green was injured in scrimmage in August of 2004. He sued Schutt Sports Manufacturing claiming the helmet was defective. The company argued Green tackled with his head down, causing the injury and  jurors agreed.

Phil Davis, attorney for Schutt Sports Manufacturing says, "If a kid tackles with his head up, this won't happen. I'm not criticizing the coaches in this case. I'm just saying that it's up to the coaches to teach tackling with their heads up."

Green declined to comment.
