Some high profile cancer fighters were in the Commissioner's Court Monday morning.
The Colon Cancer Prevention Task Force is making the rounds again and has asked Lubbock County Commissioners to declare 2008 "The Year to Fight Colon Cancer". Dr. Davor Vugrin, who has been leading this effort, is convinced that colon cancer can be eliminated because it is easily cured - if you catch it early.
Dr. Vugrin, of the Colon Cancer Prevention Task Force, told NewsChannel 11 that, "The number of people screened for colorectal cancer has increased (in Lubbock) above national and state levels."
Specifically, Dr. Vugrin says that the number of people, age 50 or older, who went in for colon cancer screening in Lubbock County last year jumped by 48%.
