Shallowater Boys Fall in State Semifinals

LUBBOCK (KCBD) - Shallowater's basketball season came to an end in Austin Friday morning as they lost to New Waverly 69-59 in the 2A State Semifinals.

#15 Shallowater had a tough draw as New Waverly came in as the #1 2A team in the State. The Bulldogs only 3 losses came to bigger schools (5A, 4A, 3A). Shallowater had some Austin tradition behind them, having won their lone State Championship in 2004, plus they made the Finals in 2007.

New Waverly's pressure defense caused trouble for the Mustangs as Shallowater committed 14 turnovers in the first half while the Bulldogs were turnover free....yet Waverly only led 28-22 at the half.

The Mustangs continued to hang around cutting the lead to 2 in the 3rd before Waverly stretched it back out to 8 at the end of the third.

Jordan Scaff had 19 pts and Andrew Morris added 14 as Shallowater ends the season 27-6.

#1 New Waverly now meets  #2 Ponder, who is the defending 2A State Champion. The Lions are 39-1 after beating Santa Rosa 77-54 in the State Semifinals. The 2A State Title game is 2pm Saturday.
