LPD officer still on administrative leave

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock Police officer remains on administrative leave after a shooting in Central Lubbock.

The incident happened Friday night just before 11 p.m. when police got a call about a robbery at the home of 1902 63rd Street. Officer Jess Karren arrived and found two men running from the home.

Karren says the men jumped into a white car. Karren drew his gun as he approached the suspects. He says he told the suspects to stop, but then fired two shots when the driver floored the car toward Karren. The vehilce then sped off.

Officer Karren is now on temporary administrative leave, that is standard policy when you're involved in a shooting.

About a half-hour after that shooting, police responded to a disturbance at Applegate Shady Acres, a mobile home park along I-27. Police found the suspect with gunshot wounds on the front porch. His name has not been released. He was taken to UMC in critical condition.

Officers are still searching for other suspects involved in the case. If you saw or know anything, call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.

LPD will be holding a press conference about the shooting on Monday. We will be there to bring you the latest.
