No alcohol election for Gaines County

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Gaines County will not be voting on alcohol sales any time soon.

According to the Gaines County Clerk's Office, the Monday deadline for a petiton to request a local election to legalize the sale of alcoholic beverages in the county passed with no petition turned in.

Seminole Mayor, Wayne Mixon, said several hundred signatures in support of an election were gathered, but not enough to reach the 890 signature requirement.

Petition organizers say the sale of alcohol in Gaines County would decrease the number of highway alcohol related accidents and increase sales tax revenues.
