Following Tuesday's election, Lubbock County will now have to canvas the votes next Tuesday, to make them official. Once that happens, county commissioners say they must wait 30 days before trying to sell bonds to build the new $83 million jail.
Commissioners say the new jail will most likely be built on county owned land south of Lubbock International Airport, near the Community Corrections Center. Ground breaking is still about a year away, then contruction should be complete in three to four years.
