Wal-Mart hoax concerns many in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX. (KCBD) - A disturbing text message circulates describing of gang activity and murder at a local Wal-Mart. NewsChannel 11 has also received this message and it's false. This message is traveling across the country if you've received the message it's alarming. The disturbing text message saying "women might be killed as part of gang initiation" it is a hoax. And if you haven't received it here is what it says - "all points bulletin from Lbb Police Department do not go to Walmart tonight. Gangs are having initiations and may kill three women seriously."

Lubbock Police say that this is a hoax, and if there were the threat of something serious they would take every precaution to inform the public, but not through a text message using "text lingo".

In a statement Wal-Mart says "We take these types of situations seriously, we regard this as being only a rumor, much like similar rumors that have circulated via e-mail in previous years. Police say if you've received this message don't send it on to anyone else, because it will only perpetuate this problem.
