LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Friday is the 1st day of spring which typically means we'll see some nice, warm, sunny days, but it also means severe weather. In the next few months the South Plains may see high winds, hail, severe thunderstorms and even tornadoes.
The National Weather Service says while you can't control the weather, you can control how prepared you are when it hits, and it starts with staying informed. "You just want to stay connected. Keep a source of information where you have some information availible to make those decisions to keep yourself, and your family safe," said meteorologist Jody James. You can get that severe weather information here on NewsChannel 11.
It's also important to pick a safe spot in your home. An interior bathroom, closet or hallways are good options. If you have a basement or underground facility, that is the safest place to go. Make sure everyone in your family knows where that safe spot is.
