North Loop accident turns fatal

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One man is dead and at least two others remain hospitalized, following a hit-and-run accident on North Loop 289 Friday evening. Investigators tell NewsChannel 11 at least one woman was ejected when a van and another vehicle collided around 6:40 p.m.  near the Quaker Avenue interchange.

There were reports of an infant among those who were injured. Police have not released the victim's names, but a family member tells us the infant in the crash, Landon Dewey is now out of the hospital and in good condition, but his father Paul Dewey died early Saturday morning at University Medical Center.  Donna Dewey remains in good condition at the UMC burn unit with 90% of her body covered in road rash.

Barbara Fuller is in critical condition with a head injury and broken bones. Fuller's family told us there was another man in the car, but didn't know his condition. 

Both families have set up a memorial funds in both the Dewey and Fuller names at Wells Fargo Bank. 

Saturday, police released the name of the man charged in the hit-and-run. He is Mario Ortiz. Ortiz was not yet booked into the Lubbock County Jail Saturday evening.
