Shallowater woman killed in morning accident

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One woman is dead and her son in the hospital after an accident near Shallowater Tuesday morning.

The accident happened at the intersection of Farm to Market roads 2641 and 179. DPS troopers tell us a yellow pickup was headed east on FM 2641 when it failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a red SUV.

DPS says they believe everyone involved had a seat belt on, but it wasn't enough to save them. "There was one from the SUV flown by AeroCare to UMC. We do not know what condition that occupant is in and one deceased in the vehicle at this time," said Corporal John Gonzalez with DPS.

The driver of that SUV, 58-year-old Jamie Lee Nesmith, was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy transported by AeroCare to University Medical Center for treatment is her 15-year-old son James. He is in serious condition.

The driver of the pickup, Jackie Marley, was not injured. At this time, no charges have been filed.
