Community Habitat for Humanity build began Thursday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Thanks to some very generous and brave folks, a Lubbock family will have a new home in just three days.

The build is a community effort started at 4 p.m. Thursday at Greek Circle. With help from the Texas Tech Chapter of Lubbock Habitat for Humanity, fraternities and sororities are just three days from providing a new home for a single father and his son. By the time the walls are up and the paint is dry, nearly 500 students will have contributed time and energy.

Students sign up for four 24 hour shifts and will work around the clock until they are ready to hand over the keys.

"Energy, spirit to get this done - a drive to get this family a home is what's going to keep us going and we have coffee too," said Katie Gibson with TTU Habitat Build.

The goal is to have the house completed by Saturday afternoon, and students will present the home to the new owner Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.

With local weather expected to take a turn for the worse on Friday, it's definitely something that these students are going to keep a close eye on. But they tell NewsChannel 11 that no matter what the weather, they are determined to get this house finished.
