Lubbock Co. Surveyor Winner Ruled Ineligible

He won with more than 96% of the vote, but now Lubbock County Commissioners say he is ineligible. "I'll declare that the candidate for Lubbock County Surveyor, Genaro Garcia, is ineligible, and that the office of county surveyor is vacant," said County Judge Tom Head.

Genaro Garcia ran as the democratic candidate for county surveyor and won., but since he is not certified by the state, County Judge Tom Head and commissioners took away his victory. Democratic County Chair Irma Guerrero disagrees with the decision.

"Seeing as how Mr. Garcia is a qualified land surveyor, he's done it for nearly all his career, he's done it for the City of Lubbock, nearly 20 years, he's done it for the U.S. Government, we feel that Mr. Garcia is highly qualified for this position," said Guerrero.

Write-in candidate Robby Christopher wants to fill the position, but Judge Head said that he is not entitled to the job. The commissioners court could appoint someone as county surveyor, but according to Judge Head, there is no pressing need at this time.
