Unsafe passing may have contributed to a collision on a county road near Slaton Tuesday. DPS troopers say the driver of the green Ford pickup, 90 year-old Monny Lee McCray, attempted to pass a cotton stripper near the intersection of County Roads 400 and 7400. He passed the cotton stripper on the left, and met a white car coming from the opposite direction. McCray swerved to the right, and side-swiped the cotton stripper, and the pickup spun around. The white car was then struck by a butane tank, that was being transported in the bed of the pickup. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Meanwhile, many cotton strippers not on the road were just sitting in cotton fields Tuesday. Monday night's rains have once again delayed the harvesting process for some farmers. They say it may be Thursday, before they will get back into the fields for another attempt.
