Consider This... Centennial Wrap Worth the 100 Year Wait

Amazing things usually don't happen by accident. And after attending the closing ceremonies celebrating Lubbock's 100th birthday, I can say it was nothing short of spectacular planning and execution.

It was breathtaking to see this amount of home grown talent perform at one venue in one night. From Lubbock born opera stars, to country music sensations, to Broadway standouts and music legends, this concert event really delivered. And deliver is exactly the word for the timeless talent of Mac Davis who brought the entire show together as performer and emcee.

Consider this, my respect and admiration goes to the entire centennial committee. They took a minimal budget and turned it into one of the most entertaining years in our city's history. And that didn't happen without the dedication, passion, and preparation of this entire group of people.

Although it didn't take a hundred years to plan, this weekend's centennial concert would have been worth the wait. So thanks to the committee, all of the volunteers and especially Don Caldwell.  Without his connections and wonderful local talent the amazing opening and closing ceremonies could not have been possible.

If you missed the concert, I hear a DVD will be available soon so stay tuned!
